At Global Hair Salon we consider ourselves loc specialists! Dreadlocks (Locs) have long been a popular hairstyle, especially for those with curly or textured hair. People love locs for many different reasons and especially because they are a protective hairstyle that minimizes wear and tear and allows your hair to grow and thrive. Locs (Locks), also known as dreads or dreadlocks, are a hairstyle created by matting or locking strands of hair together to create rope like formations. Once started, locs can take 6 months to 3 years to finish forming depending on hair texture. It should be noted that locs are a (mostly) permanent hairstyle although some people may take down locs and re-start their loc journey. Locking your hair requires a serious commitment to be made in order to maintain healthy locs without damage. We recommend getting them retwisted or retightened monthly. This hairstyle has a long history in various cultures and is often associated with spiritual, religious, or cultural significance. While the term "dreadlocks" has historically carried negative connotations, many prefer the term "locs" to avoid these associations.

All About LOC START (Important Info PLEASE read)

If you are wanting to get an initial loc installation aka "Loc Start", a consultation is REQUIRED. We provide a $25 consultation (which will go towards your service), which is an essential step in determining what type of locs you will be able to get, price point for installation, answer your questions, and help you understand the commitment of locs. If you’ve never had locs, you may wonder what the initial application process is like which we will explain. Loc application times vary significantly depending on the length, thickness, and most importantly TEXTURE of your hair, most installations are completed within 1-2hours but can be as long as 12 hours (for straight hair).

Types of Loc Starts:

Comb twists (classic traditional method for Type 4 hair)
Two Strand Twist Method + Backcombing (Recommended for Type 2-3 hair)
Full Backcombing Method (Only Straight or Wavy hair)
Instant locs (with or without human hair extensions) Leave same day with 6" of hair in loc'd form! (We do not human hair for this style)

Keep Your Hair Healthy with Personal Dreadlock Maintenance

All our loc styling requires you to have your dreads shampooed/washed, and retwisted, in house before styling but there are also a few steps you can take at home, such as:

Detoxing your hair (mature locs only)
Basic Separating when locs are tangled together
Removing debris (lint/dirt/etc)
Keeping your hair clean by washing 4 weeks before you visit our salon if it has been over 2 months since visiting us
Adding our nourishing 'Biftu's Blends Hair Growth Oil' to the strands
